38% drop in irregular border crossings from W. Balkans to the EU in the first 2 months this year

Sarajevo, 12 April 2026, dtt-net.com – Compared to January-February 2025 period, the number of irregular border crossings through Western Balkans to the EU territory in January-February 2026 dropped to 930, which is 38% less, according to the new data by EU’s border agency FRONTEX. According to the preliminary data the total number of irregular border crossings to the EU from all 5 routes (Western Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, Central Mediterranean, Western Mediterranean and Western African) during the two-month period this year was nearly 12000, which is 52% less than same period 2025.
