Skopje, 16 March 2025, dtt-net.com – 59 people died, and 155 others injured after a fire in a nightclub last night in North Macedonia’s eastern town of Kocani, with 20 of them being treated of serious injuries. authorities said.
According to initial findings by the state prosecution office, the cause of the fire was use of fireworks.
State prosecutor Ljupco Kocevski told reporters that the facility transformed into a nightclub operated without a permit and had multiple shortcomings related to fire measures security.
Kocevski said that the fireworks which caused the fire, were used in breach of the rules in the facility which was registered as catering business some 15 years ago.
The prosecution has interviewed around 20 people so far over the tragic accident, of whom a detention request is made for 10 of them.
