Tirana, 17 April 2026, dtt-net.com – Albania protesters and police clashed today, during seventh massive protest of this year in capital Tirana called by the main opposition party against the Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government as calls for a technical government and early elections continue.

Clashes started in front of the government building, after end of speech of Democratic Party’s (PD) leader protesters as in previous protests.

Protesters started firing fireworks and cocktail Molotov toward the government building, prompting intervention of police to disperse protesters with water cannons and pepper spray.

Several protesters including lawmakers are injured by pepper spray used by the police.

The crowd then tried to march toward the parliament, but was not allowed by other police cordons, which again used water cannons during the clashes.

Around 20 protesters are detained by the police. Amidst injured from pepper spray are three PD lawmakers.

Rama, who is accused by the opposition of corruption, embezzlement of state funds, links with organized crime and election fraud, refuses to resign and call early elections.
