27th anniversary of liberation from Serbia finds Kosovo in institutional stalemate again

Prishtina, 12 June 2026, dtt-net.com – The two-year war for freedom and independence from Serbia ended on 12 June 1999, but 12 June 2026 finds Kosovo in an unprecedented institutional deadlock and three parliamentary elections in 18 months, with no exit in sight from the ongoing deadlock as stubborn Albanian politicians continue failing to compromise. “Today, the Republic of Kosovo has a strong army, a capable police force, and soon there will be a gendarmerie, so that we can ensure peace, guarantee institutional stability, contribute to regional and wider security and stability, continue our steps towards integration into NATO and the European Union, and ensure that the rule of law and the rights of citizens are everywhere, always, for everyone,” the caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti said in an event organized on the occasion of liberation 27th anniversary.
