EU and UK agree further financial assistance to Ukraine’s energy sector

Brussels/London, 16 June 2026, dtt-net.com – The EU has agreed a €75 million grant for the restoration of part of Chernobyl nuclear power plant installations damaged by Russian attack, while the UK £210 million for enriched uranium supply to country’s nuclear power plants.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Denys Shmyhal said the European Commission’s grant is for restoration of the New Safe Confinement at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, damaged by a Russian attack.

The UK loan will enable the British uranium enrichment company to supply enriched uranium to Ukraine’s national nuclear power producer, Energoatom, powering the country’s nuclear plants for the next two years, according to a statement from British government today.

With the loan agreed to Energoatom, which generates over 60% of Ukraine’s electricity, the UK financial assistance to Ukraine’s energy security ups to over £490 million, so far.
