Brussels/Belgrade, 25 June 2026, dtt-net.com – More than 30 members of the European Parliament (EP) called the European Commission (EC) to speak up against a recent intimidation by Serbian authorities of students and activists, who continue alleging of use of sonic weapon by the police on them in March 2025 during a massive protest against authoritarian President Aleksandar Vucic.
“We address you with a sense of utmost urgency regarding the rapidly deteriorating state of democracy and fundamental rights in Serbia. We call for an immediate, decisive intervention by the European Commission and the EU Delegation to Belgrade to protect peaceful activists, journalists and students who are currently facing brutal state retaliation for exposing the truth,” EU lawmakers wrote in a letter two days ago to the president of EC Ursula von der Leyen, Commissioner Marta Kos and the head of EC office in Belgrade Andreas von Beckerath.
Several have been detained and questioned by the police and prosecution in recent days over the events of last year, with authorities accusing students of fabrication, despite video recordings showing an unusual movement of students to escape a fearful sound which protesters allege was used on them by the police on 15 March 2025.
