Skopje/Budapest, 02 September 2026, dtt-net.com – Hungarian police said it has launched a criminal investigation on the state-owned Exim Bank for four loans, with one being 1 billion Euros given to North Macedonia during previous government led by Viktor Orban.
In said in a press release that it received four reports from the Ministry of Economy and Energy.
“The investigators already have thousands of pages of documents in their hands. Back in mid-July, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Energy filed a complaint based on data revealed during the investigation of Magyar Export-Import Bank Zrt. The National Investigation Bureau of the Emergency Police (NRB) has initiated criminal proceedings in the case for abuse of office and mismanagement. Investigators are gathering evidence: on August 31, thousands of pages of documents were seized from the ministry. These are documents obtained during the internal investigation, which provide additional data for the investigation of the reported acts,” police said.
Investigation was requested in July by the new Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, citing low interest rate of 3,25% and Hungarian state guarantees.
