New York/Belgrade, 23 September 2026, dtt-net.com – The USA government will deepen relations with Serbia further through “strategic dialogue”, after the two governments in July signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on energy infrastructure and regional energy security,” and the American Secretary of State Marco Rubion is planning to visit the Western Balkans country for the purpose.
“Well, we intend to, and we already have. I mean, we’ve taken steps in this administration to grow closer in our interactions. I know we’ve already had individuals from the State Department and other government agencies visit there. Hopefully I’ll have an opportunity to visit as well. Obviously, you know, Serbia is tied up in some issues that are potentially problematic and explosive (0:28) and that there’s international interest on. But it is a strategic partnership that we’d like to deepen and intend to do so as we manage some of the potential issues that might emerge that I know deeply involve them as well,” Rubio told reporters today at the UN headquarters in New York, when askes about USA-Serbia relations.
The MoU was signed on 17 July this year, between Rubio and his Serbian counterpart Marko Djuric.
The strategic dialogue on economy and energy between Belgrade and Washington, includes also plans for purchase of USA LNG by Serbia from the Greek LNG Terminal of Alexandropoulos through North Macedonia, as Serbia is looking to lessen its gas dependence from Russia.
