Bulgaria FM says she and North Macedonia counterpart “understand each other perfectly” when she speaks in Bulgarian with him

Skopje/Sofia, 11 June 2026, dtt-net.com – “In my conversations with the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, I speak Bulgarian and we understand each other perfectly, “ Bulgarian foreign affairs minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova told Bulgarian media today, in yet another reflection of Bulgaria refusal to recognize Macedonian language which it treats as Bulgarian dialect. Petrova-Chameva was referring to the North Macedonia Minister of Foreign Affairs , Timčo Mucunski, with whom she met twice last month, over ongoing disputes between the two countries which as consequence has halted North Macedonia’s promised EU pathway.
