Brussels, 27 June 2026, dtt-net.com – 22 EU Member States, the industry and financial institutions Friday vowed to work together to increase energy storage capacity in European bloc through thermal energy storage and battery (BESS) electricity storage.
According to the agreement signed, they pledged between 30-35 GW of storage capacity for next two year, with several projects already ongoing in member states.
According to the European Commission (EC) the tripartite agreement will help create a “favourable business environment for scaling up storage quickly and at scale across Europe”, and will help “reduce system operating costs, ease pressure from high and volatile energy prices on EU businesses, while sending a strong market signal and strengthening EU manufacturing capacity in this sector.“
