Kosovo’s elected President takes office after politicians compromised avoiding early elections

Prishtina, 07 October 2026, dtt-net.com – Justina Shiroka-Pula today took the post of Kosovo’s President, after ruling and opposition parties reached a last-minute compromise electing her to the top post, in exchange of amending the law of 2015 on special war crimes court, following the sentencing of last month of former President Hashim Thaçi who was found guilty by European and American judges in The Hague court on war crimes charges during the 1998-1999 war for liberation and independence from Serbia. The Kosovan economist who holds a PhD in economy of Universitry of Prishtina in ‘70s, is the third woman to hold the office, after Atifete Jahjaga and Vjosa Osmani.
