Brussels, 14 July 2026, dtt-net.com – Moldova today joined Ukraine in opening two more negotiating chapters in EU accession talks, after opening first five a month ago.
The candidate country also opened Chapter 30 (External relations) and Chapter 31 (Foreign, security and defence policy) of the Cluster 6 (External relation).
“This is really significant progress,” said in a press conference Thomas Byrne, Minister of State for European affairs of Ireland, the country which holds current rotating EU Presidency.
“Moldova has repeatedly demonstrated its strategic alignment with our union and its values. Moldova has done the work. Moldova has made remarkable progress on its EU accession process. They are aligning national legislation with the EU acquis across all negotiating chapters,” he added.
“Every new cluster brings us closer toward the objective for joining the European union fully prepared to assume the rights and responsibilities of membership,” said on his part Eugen Osmochescu, Acting Prime Minister of Moldova.
The opening of two chapters today follows the opening of negotiations on Cluster 1 (Fundamentals) on 15 June.
Cluster 1 is composed of Chapter 5 (Public procurement), Chapter 18 (Statistics), Chapter 23 (Judiciary and fundamental rights), Chapter 24 (Justice, freedom and security) and Chapter 32 (Financial control). The cluster is opened first and closed last in the accession negotiations.
