Prague/Brussels, 13 June 2025, dtt-net.com – The Russia-friendly President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, today accused EU member countries of ignoring the “merit based” criteria of reforms needed for progress in membership process, saying that the main reason of stalled country’s accession negotiations with Brussels is refusal of Belgrade to recognize Kosovo’s independence, as the country has not made any steps in the process since December 2021.
“People in Europe they always speak about ‘merit based’ (criteria), using this kind of phrase, which has actually never been the case,” he said in a forum held today in Prague.
