Serbia’s minister meets top members of the government of Russia’s indicted war criminal ahead of early elections

Belgrade, 18 October 2026, dtt-net.com - Serbia’s outgoing Interior Minister, Ivica Dačić, has travelled to Moscow to secure backing from the Russian government of the indicted war criminal Vladimir Putin just one week before the country’s early parliamentary elections on October 25. Dačić, who leads the junior ruling Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), was a prominent ally of the late Serbian President Slobodan Milošević, who was indicted for war crimes and ethnic cleansing on Kosovo Albanians by the United Nations tribunal in The Hague, but died before trial verdict. According to the SPS press release Dačić met in Moscow with the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, the Council's Secretary, Sergei Shoigu, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, to discuss "relations between Belgrade and Moscow."
