Serbia’s President says will resign “soon” to run for prime minister post in early elections

Belgrade, 10 June 2026, dtt-net.com – Authoritarian President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said Wednesday that he is planning to resign “soon” from the post to run for prime minister post in early elections later this year. “Yes, I'm thinking, I'm thinking about it every day and we are having a meeting, will have a meeting tonight at party's office about it... It’s important for me to talk about program, plans, packages that we discuss, then the name of election (party’s) list,” Vucic told Radio Belgrade, when asked about his plans to run for new post, through the ruling Progressive Party (SNS) party he controls. “I have started to pack books in the presidency…,” Vucic said; while talking of his plans to resign from presidential post, adding that early elections will take place in 3 or 4 months.
