Top EU official urges for implementation of Kosovo-Serbia deal focused on controversial autonomous body for Serb minority

Prishtina, 03 June 2026, dtt-net.com – The President of European Council today in Prishtina urged Kosovan authorities to focus after June 7 early elections in implementing the EU-brokered deal of 2023 with Serbia, which is centred on formation of a controversial autonomous for Serb-majority municipalities, which many Kosovo Albanians contest. “As Kosovo heads to elections this weekend, my message to all the political leaders that I met today was simple: partnership comes with responsibility. Fostering good neighbourly relations and regional cooperation is also an essential priority to ensure the security and economic prosperity of the region,” Antonio Costa said in a press conference, after meetings he had with caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti and other institutional leaders. “The Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is critical in this regard. Let me underline: normalisation is essential for the European future of both Kosovo and Serbia. There has been important progress recently. We should build upon it and ensure the full implementation of the Ohrid agreement,” Costa added.
