Washington/Brussels, 16 September 2026, dtt-net.com – An official of the USA State Department said that the current administration in Washington would like the stalled negotiations – mediated by the EU – between Kosovo and Serbia resume and be concluded with "normalization" of relations between the two countries, which would be determinant to potential scale down of USA peacekeeping troops in Kosovo.
“Any international peacekeeping force of this nature, it depends on, it's conditions based. And we would like to see greater progress in the normalisation process between Serbia and Kosovo. (0:12) We would like to see that process resume,” Daniel J. Lawton, who is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Western Central Europe and Southern Europe, told a hearing on Western Balkans today at the House of Representatives subcommittee on European affairs.
