14% drop in irregular border crossings from W. Balkans to the EU in the first 3 months this year

Tirana, 17 April 2026, dtt-net.com – Compared to January-March 2025 period, the number of irregular border crossings through Western Balkans to the EU territory in same period 2026 dropped 14% less, to 1966 respectively, according to the new data by EU’s border agency FRONTEX. According to the preliminary data the total number of irregular border crossings recorded to the EU from all 5 routes (Western Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, Central Mediterranean, Western Mediterranean and Western African) during the three-month period this year was 21400, which is 39% less than same period 2025.
