Sarajevo, 13 February 2026, dtt-net.com – Compared to January 2025, the number of irregular border crossings through Western Balkans to the EU territory in January 2026 dropped to 222, which is 74% less, according to the new data by EU’s border agency FRONTEX.
According to the preliminary data the total number of irregular border crossings to the EU from all 5 routes (Western Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, Central Mediterranean, Western Mediterranean and Western African) last month was around 5500, which is 60% less than in January 2025, and the cause of sharp decrease relates to the sever winter.
