Sarajevo, 14 November 2025, dtt-net.com – Another two people died from severe burns from the tragic accident of November 4 in the retirement home in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) town of Tuzla, rising the death toll to fifteen, town’s hospital announced.
“In the past 24 hours, two patients have died, one patient at the Clinic for Internal Medicine and one patient at the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation,” the University Clinical Center Tuzla said.
On that day, eleven people, all residents of the Tuzla Retirement Home, lost their lives, after the fire broke at the seventh floor. 30 others were injured.
Tuzla’s prosecution office said today that according to the preliminary analysis and investigation conducted the cause of the fire at the seventh floor of the nursing home was a short electricity circuit.
“The report and opinion of the electrical expert stated the cause of the fire. It was caused by a short circuit in the conductors of the connecting cable of the radio receiver, which at the time of the fire was plugged into a plug, squeezed between the mattress on the bed, the wall and the metal part of the bed in the room of one of the residents of the Tuzla Retirement Home. The main cause is first mechanical and then thermal stress on the cable,” the prosecution said.
It also said that investigation is ongoing and will be extensive and detailed and is aimed at establishing criminal liability.
“The investigation will be extensive and detailed. All circumstances surrounding the fire will be examined, including the entire causal relationship, responsibility and operational failures, as well as all facts regarding the safety and fire protection measures taken or not taken in the facility. The investigation is aimed at establishing criminal liability, i.e. the elements for the existence of a reasonable suspicion that official or responsible persons (or some other person) have committed criminal offenses,” it said.
