Russia-owned oil refinery in Serbia asks USA for another extension of sanctions suspension

Belgrade, 10 June 2026, dtt-net.com – Oil refinery in Serbia NIS, owned in majority by Russian gas giant Gazprom, said it applied today to the USA government for another suspension of sanctions, as company is awaiting conclusion of agreement for purchase of Russian majority shares by Hungarian MOL set as condition for removal from sanctions list by Washington, imposed by Joe Biden’s government in January 2025. “NIS has applied for a new special license from the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department to enable the company to continue operating after June 16, when the previous license issued in April expires,” the company said in a press release.
