EU bank urges member states to spend much more and accelerate exploration of raw materials

Brussels, 23 July 2026, dtt-net.com – A study of the European Investment Bank (EIB) calls EU institutions and member states to invest up to 2 billion Euros per year over next five years for exploration of critical raw materials to lessen dependence on imports.

The study also urges member states to shorten permitting and other procedural barriers to meet the goal.

“Current mineral exploration spending in the EU is estimated at around €0.2 billion a year. To help meet the EU’s objectives, the study estimates that this would need to increase tenfold to around €2 billion a year over the next five years,” the bank said…
