EU countries greenlight Albania crucial reforms, but still no date for closing first chapters

Brussels, 21 May 2026, dtt-net.com – Representatives of governments of 27 EU member countries today agreed on joint positive assessment of Albania reforms so far over the crucial Fundamentals cluster 1 which relates to judiciary and rule of law sector for the candidate country, after the country opened all 33 negotiating chapters, but there is still no date set for closing them however. After initial split between the governments, today at the so called COELA group all representatives gave their green light on what is called IBAR report, (Interim Benchmark Assessment Report) over state of play of reforms on five negotiating chapters of the cluster, according to the sources in Brussels.
