EU Parliament OK with “gradual integration” until full entry of candidate countries

Strasbourg, 11 March 2026, dtt-net.com – The European Parliament (EP) today said that “gradual integration” in the EU would be acceptable only if conditions are met by candidate countries adding that it cannot be replacement of full membership. In a resolution adopted with 385 votes in favour, 147 against and 98 abstentions, EU legislative body said it “acknowledges the importance of broadly applying gradual integration, in a merit-based and reversible manner, into EU common policies, such as the single market, including the digital single market, for candidate countries that make substantial progress on EU-related reforms, while fully preserving the integrity of the EU internal market and maintaining a level playing field.”
