Berlin, 03 June 2026, dtt-net.com – Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in a economic forum held yesterday that his government’s plans to build dozens of gas-fired power plants are aimed at baseload electricity production for the country, while at the same time vowing that efforts for more electricity through wind and solar farms will continue.
“This is neither a phase-out of renewables nor a return to fossil fuels. But we need baseload power generation, especially electricity generation, and for a certain period of time, this will not be possible without gas-fired power plants in reserve. This country depends on a secure, stable, and affordable electricity supply. This will not be possible with wind and solar power alone in the foreseeable future, especially during periods of low wind and solar output, when we also need reliable, affordable energy, and above all, electricity in Germany,” Merz said at the East German Economic Forum.
