Strasbourg/Tirana, 13 November 2023, dtt-net.com – The agreement of last week between Italian and Albania for construction of two asylum-seekers camps in Albanian territory disembarked from Italy and await in Albania’s soil treatment of their asylum application “raises several human rights concerns and adds to a worrying European trend towards the externalisation of asylum responsibilities,” thus creating “an ad hoc extra-territorial asylum regime characterised by many legal ambiguities”, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović, said today in a press statement.
