Italian town gets first hydrogen-powered buses manufactured by Polish innovative company

Bologna, 25 May 2026, dtt-net.com – Bologna town today got first hydrogen-powered buses manufactured by Polish Solaris company and operated by town’s public transport company Tper, the first in the country, thus joining

The first “Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen” model vehicles, which can run 400 km in a single refuelling, and operated by Tper entered service today as part of the aimed fleet of total 127 buses for the Bologna public transport.

“These are vehicles with zero harmful tailpipe emissions and they will help advance Bologna’s ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2030, twenty years ahead of the target set by the EU, as one of Europe’s 100 mission cities,” Tper said in a press release.

The Poland-based manufacturer, a subsidiary of Spanish manufacturer CAF, delivered the first hydrogen-powered articulated buses to a customer in Hamburg in 2015, then 10 trolleybuses with a hydrogen range extender in 2018, to present the first, innovative 12-meter hydrogen bus in 2019.

Today Solaris has expanded its market Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Sweden and Italy.

In 2022, it expanded its portfolio with the “Urbino 18 hydrogen” model which can cover up to 600 kilometres.
