Prishtina, 04 September 2026, dtt-net.com – Prosecution of Kosovo today announced indictment on 35 former members of Serbia forces over war crimes in the village of Prekaz, when dozens of civilians, including children, of the family of former Kosovo guerilla (KLA) members, were slaughtered in 1998.
Prosecutor Valdet Gashi said 35 are indicted in absence for murder of 26 civilians, during the three-day assault on the Adem Jasharaj family in March 1998.
“Evidence shows that during this assault 26 civilians have been killed, including children of 5-year-old, women, and elderly. Evidence shows that Serb special forces took hostage residents of Jashari neighbourhood and mistreated them,” Gashi said in a press conference.
Adem and his brother Hamez, also member of the KLA guerilla, were killed during the assault.
Isufaj said the assault was led by Milorad Ulemek, also known as Milorad Luković and “Legija”, the Serbian former commander of the Serbian police special unit, the Special Operations Unit and a former paramilitary commander, who was convicted in Serbia of the assassinations of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić and former Serbian President Ivan Stambolić.
Nearly 13,000 Albanian civilians were massacred by Serbia forces, 20,000 girls and women raped, 120,000 houses destroyed and more than 800 000 deported forcibly to Albania and North Macedonia during the 1998-1999 war of independence from Serbia.
More than 1500 civilians are still missing, of which more than 500 Serbs believed to be killed by members of Kosovo Albanian guerilla, KLA, in revenge.
