North Macedonia government and opposition near reaching a compromise for constitutional changes imposed by Bulgaria for EU talks

Skopje, 07 June 2023, dtt-net.com – Main opposition party of ethnic Macedonians, the VMRO-DPMNE could become part of a provisional government, but without the main ruling party of ethnic Albanians in it, in exchange of constitutional changes demanded by the Bulgaria for EU accession negotiations to be made prior to early parliamentary elections, according to the talks held today by North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski and party’s leader Hristijan Mickoski.

But the main condition by the conservative party is that constitutional changes, inclusion of Bulgarian minority in it, enter into force only after the country becomes full fledged member of the EU, which represents a breach of negotiating framework already agreed between the government in Skopje and the 27 member states of the European bloc last year.
