Germany to boost ties with Kazakhstan over oil, green hydrogen and raw materials

Berlin/Astana, 30 June 2026, dtt-net.com – Germany’s and Kazakhstan’s governments are having talks to boost economic ties between the two countries, with Kazakhstan’s oil exports, green hydrogen production and extraction and processing of raw materials in Kazakhstan to the EU country, at centre of discussions.

German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Katherina Reiche, is in Astana since yesterday meeting with Kazakhstan counterpart Erlan Akkenzhenov about more oil exports to Germany, green hydrogen project Hyrasia One, and raw materials needed for batteries and semiconductors.

In 2025, Kazakhstan was Germany’s fourth-largest oil supplier with 10.4 million tons.

The two ministers “comprehensively considered the possibilities of further development of Kazakhstan oil supply in order to meet the production demand of major industrial enterprises in Germany,” reads a press release from Kazakhstan’s ministry of energy…
